During that time, there was a high consequence/ low probability of triggering an avalanche on a reactive sun crust layer deep in the snow pack only on south facing slopes. The worst part of the day was hiking up the southern exposure of that mountain knowing we could potentially find one of those trigger points. We had one smaller collapse in the snowpack on the way up, but decided that if we stayed on route we would be out of harms way if the slope were to avalanche. Neil triggered the slide just as we reached the top, and while everything fractured around us, we were already safe. The north face of Texas was golden, completely different scenario, bomber snowpack.
